The Center for American Studies would like to invite you to participate in a course with an experienced American psychologist, Prof. Lawrence Eisenberg, titled “Alcoholism and Substance Use Disorders”.
This course provides a review of key psychological theories (including genetic theories) and practical approaches to Alcoholism and Substance Use Disorders.
You will learn about prominent models for conceptualizing addictive behaviors, along with clinical treatments based on these models.
You will understand the psychological dynamics of addiction, stages of change, screening for and diagnosing addictive behaviors, brief psychological interventions, empirically supported treatments, evidence-based practice, relapse prevention, and harm reduction.
The course takes place in real time on May 17 (Friday), 2024 between 5.00-8.30 pm (CET – Berlin/Rome/Prague/Warsaw time) online on Zoom.
Participants will have a chance to ask questions and engage in discussion with the course instructor.

Prof. Lawrence Eisenberg is an experienced professor and psychotherapist with a wide range of experience in psychology and working with patients. He graduated in psychology from Columbia University (Columbia School of Social Work) with a specialization in Clinical/Medical Social Work. He currently serves as a lecturer at Guilford College, where he teaches courses on alcoholism and other substance use disorders.
Prof. Lawrence Eisenberg is known for his patient-centered approach, which makes his work in the field of psychotherapy particularly effective. His main focus is on the psychology of addiction. His commitment to the development of others and his focused approach to therapeutic work make him a respected mentor and specialist in his field.
Every participant will receive a set of materials that can be used as a handy resource also after the course.

All of our courses are certified.
Upon the completion of the course, you will be awarded an official digital certificate signed by the CFAS President. You may then print the certificate at home, use it to apply for various academic positions, or simply post it to your LinkedIn or other professional channels.
The certificate shows the number of hours so you may use it to satisfy your Continuing Education requirements as well.
